Curtis Roach- Bored in the House

Materials: Home audio or video recording device (phone, tablet, computer, other audio recording device).

Objectives:

  • Students will listen to “Bored in the House” by Curtis Roach

  • Students will learn the body percussion rhythm for “Bored in the House”

  • Students will create and record themselves performing an original spoken word piece to accompany the body percussion from “Bored in the House”.

Procedure:

  1. Introduce students to Detroit HipHop artist Curtis Roach. At the time of this writing (06/05/2020), the video has 40.6 Million views, 5.7 Million likes and 160.3K shares on TikTok.

  2. Play students the clean version of the song linked on this page.

  3. Either play the video multiple times (a benefit of TikTok is that it will loop until you stop it) and have students learn from rote, have students transcribe the rhythm, or learn from the notation listed below.

  4. Assign students to create and audio or video record themselves performing an original spoken word piece to accompany the body percussion from “Bored in the House”
